چکیده
In spite of their bad reputation, stress hormones have a protect ive as well as a damaging effect on the body. Whether the good or bad side of stre ss hormon e action predominates depends on the time course of the hormonal stress respon se, as well as the body's exposure to stress hormones. Let us consider some examples. G lucocort ico ids arc so named because of their abil ity to promote conversion of protein and lipids to usable carbohydrates. In the short run. this serves the bod y well by replen ishing energy reserves after a period of activity, like running away from a predator. Glucocort icoids also act on the brain to increase appetite for food, another way of regulating energy, and to increase locomotor activity and food-seeking behavior. This serves us well after running two miles, but it is not beneficial when we grab a bag of potato chips while cramming for an exam or writing a grant application. Assessment of oxidative stress parameters of brain-derived neurotrophic factor heterozygous mice in acute stress model
Objective(s): Exposing to stress may be associated with increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, high level of oxidative stress may eventually give rise to accumulation of oxidative damage and development of numerous neurodegenerative diseases. It has been presented that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) supports neurons against various neurodegenerative conditio...
متن کاملتغییرات وابسته به سن برخی نروتروفین های مغز و فعالیت لوکوموتور در یک مدل حیوانی
Background: Accumulative evidences suggest that any change in brain neurotrophins can be involved in brain development and function. However, little is known about age related alteration of the neurotrophins. In this experimental study, we investigated the adulthood changes in the locomotor activity and the levels of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) in selec...
متن کاملP29: Changes in Thickness and Intelligence
Neuroimaging research indicates that human intellectual ability is associated to brain structure including the thickness of the cerebral cortex. Most studies show that general intelligence is positively associated with cortical thickness in areas of association cortex allocated throughout both brain hemispheres. Changes in cortical thickness over time have been related to intelligence, but whet...
متن کاملDT-MRI Tractography and its Application in Cognitive Neuroscience
Recent advancement of MRI techniques and development of new methods of image analysis have allowed us to study large neural tracts within the human brain. This is based on the principle of diffusion tensor MRI that is similar to that of diffusion-weighted imaging but takes magnitude and direction of the diffusion of water into account. Using this technique we have been able to define large neur...
